"This ain't your grandaddy's buckshot load!" (self quote)

One shot, three .60 caliber holes to point of aim at 40 yards with a vent rib and a bead sight.

Thought you guys would like to see this.

The Tri-Ball II and Tri-Ball III are buckshot loads manufactured by Dixie Slugs Co.

By the way, a 00 buckshot pellet weighs 1/8th ounce, one Tri-Ball pellet weighs 3/4th ounce!

I have used Dixie's slug ammo. Impressive. I was/am going to try the Tri-Ball. Dixie has photos of some very small groups, like yours, fired at 40yds from an extra full choke. http://www.dixieslugs.com/
What distance the test?

Mr. Gates' (Dixie Slugs) loading information for his original 3-Ball shell (The "Dixie Hog Cruncher") is on this Forum. I load that one. That one used .570" roundballs, I subbed .575". Recently he posted load info for the .600" load, but I disremember what board it was on. I'll be loading that one when I get a .600" mold.

If you're into shotgunning, those loads are great fun. I haven't shot anything but targets, wetpack and other testing media so far, but those big ol' balls chugging right along have great penetration. No doubt will be good on most large game.

Friends...Like the man said, I played with three ball loads for some time...in the field! If you are going to reload a three ball loads (.570" to .600"), I would suggest getting the Orange wad (they will know what Dixie uses) form Precision Reloading. Use only a straight wall 12 ga 3" hull like Fiocchi or Chrddite. Be sure the ball is pushed hard to the bottom of the wad! We use a powder that is not available to the public, but Blue Dot works good. Vibrate the buffer around the balls and roll crimp. With the Orange wad, our Board of Advisor Ralph has found that a .675" choke seems to give the most uniform tight pattens. The balls cast be cast from WW with about 3% (by weight) of Tin. The Speer/Hornady pure lead .570"ball will work on deer, but we now know hard cast is better for hogs.
The present Dixie Tri-Ball loads are about the fourth generation of development. All of you here already know how deadly hard cast is!
Over on Dixie, we get quite a few hits on the post about Beartooth Bullets, plus emails...many about what we use in the .357 Mag. Marshall's heavy .357 hard cast bullets do work very good on deer and hogs indeed!
I prefer WW 296 for those loads, but we have been testing LiL'Gun in the 44's in the Marlins....looks pretty good! Marshall has sme 250's that work real goood with LiL'Gun! Maybe some day we will get Marshall to cast/sell some ful bore 12 ga .727" - 600 gr slug/bullets. We get requests all the time, but all ours go into loaded rounds at present.

I have some of these and wish I'd ordered $200 worth. They kick like a mule when you fire them but DAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNN whatever you hit with them should go down or die gushing somewhere nearby! Their customer service was top notch and they give you a free wad and balls to test your barrel and choke for clearance without tools or gutting a live shell. I got a free box with 10 (55 rounds), and FAST shipping.
These are the most fun shotgun loads I've ever used (after I put on a shirt pad!)
Keep at least 2 of these in your side saddle or put something to mark them so you don't mix them with your regular loads.

They are a great solution for people with ported and backbored barrels who can't use slugs without changing barrels, or for people using a tight choke who don't want to take it out when something big and ugly decides to hunt you!

They came in premo hulls with roll crimped ends and water resistant top cards. They feed perfectly and extract easily.
