I'm finishing up re-reading "He11 - I Was There!" - the autobiography of Elmer Keith, and I started wondering if any of Elmer Keith's descendants have continued on where he left off and are involved in shooting and hunting.
In the book he talks about his son Ted being an accountant, but he also talks about some of the things that Ted did for the US Military, and it appears that Ted was a pretty hard charger in his own right. Also, according to the book, Ted did plenty of shooting and hunting on his own. The book also shows that he had several grandaughters and a grandson, and I would figure the youngest of them to be pretty close to my age - mid to late 30s.
Does anyone know of the whereabouts of any of Elmer Keiths family or decendants and whether or not they are involved with guns, ammo, shooting or hunting?

Anyone?
I suppose that just because Elmer was as into guns and hunting as he was doesn't mean that any of the rest of his family would be, although there is a higher probability. I base that on my own endeavors now that I have finally inherited a number of my Dad's guns - I wonder if I'll ever stop feeling like I'm playing catch up when it comes to shooting and reloading?

I remember that - but Ted can't be a young man anymore - I think he was in his 30s at the time of the writing of Keith's autobiography, and that's was 29 years ago.
It must have been interesting growing up the son of Elmer Keith, although in a way I kind of understand. I grew up the son of Bill Gleason. Not only was he the Law in my hometown, but he was highly regarded as a police officer in general and was even once elected president of the National Peace Officer's Association. On top of that, he was well know for his prowess in the shooting sports - I have many of his trophies from his competition days and it seemed like he always placed. Pistol, rifle, trap and skeet - it didn't really seem to matter which discipline - he was skilled at all of it. Maybe I'm making the man out to be more than he was - when I was little he was larger than life and he left some mighty big shoes to fill.
Anyway, I wonder if Ted or Elmer's grandkids ever felt like I do - somewhat overshadowed by their father's/grandfather's accomplishments - or are they trying to follow in their father's footsteps, much like I am, in spite of it?

There is a whole room/ museum devoted to Elmer Keith in the Cabela's in Boise. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Mr. Keith or guns.
The Boise Cabela's is within a block or two of the freeway connector so is easily accessible even if your just passing through.

I think that it would almost be a shame if none of his decedents carried on his legacy, although it would be tough to fill his shoes. They would forever be compared to Elmer, and frankly, that's not a comparison I would want to subject myself to.
