If a man could smell half as good as dog could there wouldn't be any game left in this country.

I have a couple of Walker/Bulldog mixes; they are brother and sister. Brother is more "houndish" and little sis is more "bulldogish". Tater and Daisy, man alive I love those dogs.

We live on a nice little plot of land out in the country, deer everywhere. The Tater (as I refer to him) can wind a deer from inside the house. I grant you it is an old and drafty house but still...

I just now turned him out and he charged the fence (I wish I had a video camera cause I can't describe how he jumps and pounces) raising cane. It took me about five minutes but I kept looking where he was looking and I finally saw two little ears poking up from behind some weeds. I've been sorry as all get out this summer about mowing.

Deer seem to have special senses also; even though I didn't move or hardly bat an eye, as soon as I picked those ears out the little spotted fawn headed elsewhere.

Daisy went with Mom to visit her folks this weekend which is why I decided to write this little story. Me and The Tater are both a little lonely.

Tater and Daisy would like to offer their greetings from Pigpen Hollow.

Well Ken, it's likely that they not only smell better than we do (uhm....have a better sense of smell!), but also hear better. I remember years ago fishing on the Middle Fk of the Clearwater River and my black labs hackles went up and he announced that something wasn't right. Across the river in the dark shadows was a bull moose. There's a lot of good in having a dog with you, in many situations.
