Two things strike me about this story. First, that justice appears to have been served and second, that a whole lot of physical and mental pain could have been saved for all concerned if the police had done something about the creep who tried to snatch the 10 year old girl in the first place. I know, complaints of lewd behaviour need to be substantiated and everyone is innocent until proven guilty but if the community is telling the police something ain't right....

Tough Winnipeg mom takes justice into own hands

A Winnipeg mother took matters into her own hands Wednesday night, after her 10-year-old girl was attacked at a park near their North End neighbourhood home.
The woman says her daughter ran into their house crying, and told her that a man tried to grab her as she played in front of her house. The little girl was shaken up, but safe.
Still, it was too much for the 42-year-old mother to handle.
She says she knew the 24-year-old man, and that she had contacted police on several occasions because she believed he had committed lewd acts around children in the area.
She told CTV News she armed herself with a pipe and went looking for him.
A violent confrontation broke out, leaving the mother injured in the side of the neck.
The mother says her 17-year-old son came to help her and that he was stabbed too.
They used the pipe and fought back.
The mother received 27 staples but is otherwise fine.
"I know what I did was wrong, but I know in my heart it wasn't, 'cause I had to," she said.
Police have not commented on the condition of the son; but say the 24-year-old man sustained serious injuries. On Thursday he was still in hospital.

The man's sister told CTV News, on her way to visit him in hospital, she thought it was all a misunderstanding.

"I know my brother would never do anything like that," she told CTV News.
Police say once the man recovers he will be facing charges. They told CTV News charges against the mother are unlikely.

I have taken the position to NOT form any opinion,at all, until the dust settles, and calm minds finish investigating.
In most cases, the "vigillante"response is justified, but in far too many cases,it is not.
Please keep us posted,as the case progresses.

Don't bring a pipe to a knife fight?

In all seriousness, I'm not sure how this fits in with the forum, other than as a commentary on how Canadians can't legally defend themselves by carrying handguns. In any case, it's not clear who needed defending here, and like Frank said a vigillante response is not necessarily correct in all cases.

It's probably best to not get too deep into this one.
