I was just now looking at a deer out in the pasture. It was a fairly large bodied deer and his rack was about the width of his ears and quite tall. Too far to see brow tines but three main points per side.

His ribs were jutting out and he was hunched over in the back. It has been awfully dry here but I wouldn't think they would be starving that bad.

That's probably not starvation - it's probably Chronic Wasting Disorder, related to Scabies and Mad Cow syndrome. Please, please please call your state wildlife management people first thing tomorrow and report what you saw! Note that the disease is apparently spread by saliva on the grass as they're grazing, so if one's got it the whole herd's got it. Don't eat them!!!

Got a whole bunch of them to the west of you across the state line.

As recommended, get ahold of your game and fish dept ASAP to report.

Sounds like the buck is either an old buck, it might have been injured, or it may have EHD. I doubt if it is CWD though.

I can't find anything reporting CWD in states bordering Georgia. The nearest I can find is West Virginia. If you remember where you read this let me know.

I see deer nearly every day and don't pay much attention to them. There were a couple of young bucks out there this morning so I put the glasses on them. They looked to be 2007 born twins, they were thin but not like that one yesterday.

The pictures and descriptions I could find of CWD did not show the "hunched back", I'm thinking it is a spinal injury from a vehicle or gunshot. I wish now I would have shot that deer. I'll keep an eye out now and maybe get a closer look.

We are supposed to be getting a couple of inches of rain this weekend, that ought to help a little.

I'm referring to Colorado, which borders Kansas to the West. They have had a CWD problem for some years now.
