Well first off, Welcome to Shooters Forum. Sorry you couldn't get any help when you first posted your question in Kermit's thread.
As I said in a previous thread, Big Greens 1100 series are good guns. Now I haven't studied the G3 model, so I have no idea how it differs from other 1100's.
You mention you'd rather not spend a lot until you determine if you're going to like shooting. Smart man. Have you given any thought to a used 1100? I would think you could get into a good used, not abused gun for less than a new model. And if you decide the sport is not for you, it should be easy to recoup most of your money. Just an idea. Us Ol' guys have lots of ideas.:D

Be advised that if you intend to shoot trap with a semi auto, you will need to get a shell catcher so you don't bean your shooting buddies with empty hulls. An 1100 is an outstanding skeet and/or trap gun in my not so humble opinion. I do not have a G3, but the plating and teflon sure shouldn't hurt anything.
