I was sorting thru several thousand 12ga hulls today and found a box of ACTIV 12ga hulls. Does anyone have loading data for these, preferrably with 571, Unique, WSF or WST?

I am also looking for low-pressure 12ga, 1 or 1 1/8oz loads for vintage double barrelled shotguns such as A H Fox and L C Smith. Any loading data or references to such would be appreciated.

Thanks!:D

Might look into International Clays, it has a slower burn rate, and shoot 1 /oz loads. I use 19grs of IC with 7/8 or 1 oz for first shot in doubles to reduce the recoil and barrel movement. Lots of trapshooters do the same. Great old guns you got there, have fun. Wads can also have a small effect on recoil too, check them out.

I think I still have a few thousand wads for Activ hulls and I'm pretty sure I can locate an Activ reloading manual.
I will get back to you.

Is there any data for the Activ hulls that uses another manufacturer's wad? Locating T-35 wads etc is the difficult part.

Not for the ACTIV hull, but for very low pressure 12 Gauge loads Hodgdon's load data for IMR Powder lists a lot of them for 24 and 28 gram loads.

Don't have my load books by me right now (but that link to IMR in another post will have the data) but I use IMR 7625 for low pressure loads that I use in an old Parker SXS. They are one oz. loads and in the 5K - 7K psi range. They are not loaded in Activ cases.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the ACTIV shells all plastic ?

Yes Narco, except for a small metal disk inside the base to strengthen it to withstand extraction. The primer would, of course, be metalic too.

Yeah I seem to recall shooting those some 15 years ago. Why hasn't anyone followed up with manufacturing those again especially with the cost of metals. I know 223 now comes in polymer cases with just a hint of brass. It seems like it could save on manufacturing cost. If I am still correct back when active's came out they were a buck cheaper than the cheapest brass loads. For bird shot I don't believe you could go wrong. Just my opinion.

What few understand is the Activ was one of the finset loaded ammo available anywhere indeed!
Activ/s problem was getting onto the distrbutor level...when the big ammo boys told the distributor they would pull their line if the distributor took on the Activ line...period!
The same thing happened when Smith & Wesson came out with shotshells...I know I was there!
There have been many fine products that never reached the shooter/hunter because of this very reason.
