i read on different sites, some use gc and some dont even though the velocity is 1300 to 1800 fps with a hard cast 240 gr. bullet. I'm new to shooting cast...................mr.c

You Don't need a gas check in a revolver if the boolit fits the throats. Just water drop the WW boolits. I have been making molds without them and they shoot the same or better without leading.
The gas checks were designed for revolvers when soft lead was shot for expansion. With the new WLN and WFN designs that don't need to expand in the .44 and up, killing power and penetration has gone up.
Even in my .475 and 45-70 BFR's PB boolits shoot like gang busters.
Besides, the expense of gas checks is going to turn them into dodo's.
HOWEVER, shooting some boolits designed for a gas check and not putting the check on them can destroy accuracy and even make some tumble. That is something you need to try with the boolit you have and how it matches the rate of twist without the check. Leaving it off is a loss of a drive band and shortens the boolit.

It means dropping the bullets into water as they come out of the mould. This hardeneds them if they are a suitable alloy. Wheelweight metal hardeneds well. This is what is meant by heat treating or hard cast. You should air cool bullets if you're planning on shooting them at subsonic velocities.
