Does anyone have custom chambered lever guns? How does one go about getting one chambered in a round that's not common? I would like to look at getting one chambered in .458 SOCOM.

You might check out some of these.

Considering the 450 Marlin outperforms it handily I can't see the reason to spend the money it would cost to chamber it.

.......the levers chambered in some of the "un-natural" calibers you would also have to consider the pressures involved. Not so much with the SOCOM,Beowulf,or the LW,but with the high pressure rds.

As faucettb stated, the .450,45-70(especially handloaded) 50 Alaskan, and a couple of the others, will put out all the power that one could ever want/need.

Any of the higher pressure rds would have to be chambered in a '92 action for the strength factor.

I just bought a Encore Pro Hunter in 7mag. I also wanted a shorter bbl in a hard hitting caliber for the closer range and or thick brush hunting that is often done down here in Fla.

When looking at the Kahtadin line of bbls offered by T/C, I chose the .45-70. I already reload for this caliber and it will give me all the power that I could ever use at the closer ranges. While the .460 and the .500 S&W's look "interesting", the .45-70 will be all I could ever need. Especially with a handloaded hardcast.

I have had similar conversations with people quite a few times considering a "high power" lever gun. I always tell them. If you are a reloader,.45-70,if not .450 Marlin. Bear protection lever,16",SS,LSI/Puma chambered in .454 Casull. These are all I will ever need.

To me, the rest are simply "interesting". ----pruhdlr

Try Regan Nonneman. He has built 2 custom Marlin 307s for me and they are fantastic. He is pretty busy so you have to be patient. His web site is:

I own a .45-70 (and reload all my own cartridges) and own more firearms than I "need" ranging from .22 s,l,lr to .338 Remington Ultramag. I just thought it would be fun to have a lever gun in 458 SOCOM just like I would like to one day get a lever gun in .44 magnum and .357 magnum.
