My sons and I had a successful pronghorn hunt in NW Colorado. Lots of fun and good shooting for all. This was their first speed goat hunt and they learned a lot about being quick. No stand hunting here. They were always wondering why I like to use my homemade shooting sticks. Now they know. After a couple of clean misses they decided that old Dad's idea of a solid rest worked well and took the shooting sticks. We did some nice long stalks and a lot of riding and scoping. They found out that seeing them is easy, stalking close is harder and getting the quick shot before they run is hardest. Note the big smiles and the "mine is bigger than yours" looks by each one. Nice shot placement by the youngest at 150 yards. Even old Dad got in the act with the 45 ruger. The ultradot sight ( I think it was recommended by Whitworth or BFRshooter) really helped the old eyes. I paced off 72 downhill to the small buck taken with the 45 colt - 300 gr Beartooth Bullet LFNGC, 21 gr W296 in Starline brass. It took a young (read small) and dumb buck to let me get close enough with the revolver, but he will taste just as well as the others. The boys were shooting a remington 700 mountain rifle in 270 Win with Speer Grand slams for 2 of the goats and the other was using a sporterized FN mauser put together and sold by H&R many years ago in 30-06 with 180 gr Nosler Partitions.

We were close, north of Maybell. It was a "quickie" hunt. We came in and set up camp, got up the next morning, got 3 down that day, then the next day got the last one. The next day got them all packed away with dry ice for the trip and then left for home. The boys had a football game they wanted to play in. Imagine that, choosing football over some extra days in NW Colorado! I thought about you but forgot to tell you we were coming and did not have a computer out there. I'm already thinking about next year. I think I have enough points to draw Mulies for unit 10! I'm still a year or two away from enough points for elk in unit 10.

Looks like everyone had a good time; I would love to get out there one day and take a pronghorn. I enjoy stalk hunting far more than sitting in a tree stand. Great pictures also.

Congrats tibbee, that looks as if it was a fun time for all. That antelope meat is good eating, at least the ones that I've gotten. Hope yours are as well. Let us know how they eat.

I've always enjoyed the meat. We've already started on it and have had several meals- ground, steaks and in a stew. It is all good. I like the flavor even more than deer. The stew was great! It should be because I saw the empty meat wrapper that she used in it and it said TENDERLION! :eek:I had to explain that that was NOT the stew meat. But it was REALLY good stew. :)
