View Full Version : nice buck
I tried to get this buck on the record but the pic isn't good enough. RAttled up this beautiful 8 point this morning. Look at his G1's I'm guessing 8-9 inches.
Also my son with another nice 11 pt shot with an '06 165 sp's at about 100 yards.( I had to get my grandsons in the picture.

Hey Tom - would you ask Clay to send the pictures of the water jugs? He'll know what they are.
Also congrats to Clay!
Ah, you're raising some nice bucks this year, Tom!
Congrats to Clay and Alex.
Mike - thought you'd be there this weekend?

Nah. Girlfriend's birthday. Should have screened more carefully for this when dating! LOL
Anyway, we'll be there next weekend.

Yep, there rutting pretty good up here in North Texas. Saw a big ten run up Mike's fence line chasing a doe as I headed back to camp.
The two of us saw about 12 bucks hunting Saturday morning, so they are moving.
Good Luck to all
I thought you"ll might want to see some week-end pics.
We don't shoot unless they have 10 pts.
Thanks to Steve Raulerson for being a true trophy hunter an keeping the safety on
It isn"t easy.
BTW, Those were from his game camera but he see deer like this a lot.
Good hunting
Sure gittin a nice crop of future shooters, Tom! :)

No those boys are keepers. Nice deer too. Congrats on a very nice deer. I really am interested in the trailers in the background. Is that size and make a standard for your camp. I really need something like that.

Morning Chief,
No, everyone has their own. That little trailer was my first one, but I sold it to a friend, and got a 28' with a push out. With the grandkids, I needed something bigger.
Since I shot a mule deer earlier in the season, I haven't shot a whitetail. I"ve seen four shooters but nothing that would make me want to open up a gut pile.
I did nearly fall out of my deer stand getting out of it Saturday morning. I had to let my rifle fall and the leupold 4.5-14 scope caught the full brunt of it by hitting the eyepiece on the last rung of the steel latter.
Dinked it up pretty good, and it was 9" right at 100, but after zeroing it in again, it seems just fine. I guess that's a tribute to Leupold. They make good stuff

Nice pics tpv. I like the camo outfits on the kids! And the deer are nice too.
Chief, you might consider a nice canvas wall tent, with internal frame, and wood stove! Easier to pack up and go with a camp box, without having to tow anything, although not so nice when you pull into camp at midnight and still have to set up!

pretty much thinking about pulling it to the lease and leaving it. Need air more than cold weather camping. When it gets cold I just go less and bundle up. We are a different breed in the south. If you don't learn to hunt in the heat you don't get to hunt much.

Hey Tom, tell Clay that we need the 'trophy doe' pictures :)

Yep, I'll tell him. We got to have those pics.
I found the remains of a big hog about 150 yards from where I shot one high on the shoulder last week. That one would have fed an army.
Did you recover the tuskers, Tom?
Guess you just need to "gun up" in caliber for them critters! :D
Keep thinking of you guys on the lease every day. :(

Yea, We miss you.
Friday night, I made a big pot of Chili, and we watched football. But by 9:00PM, everyone is in bed. I used to stay up all night by the firepit, but I just can't do it anymore.
We've seen a lot of bucks, but all of us old guys do more looking then killing.
Here's a picture of my Sunday morning visitor while in the stand

Awww.... you're too kind, Tom. I see you think the hog leg looks better than my face!!!! :D
I was afraid Ed was going to gut it in camp so I thought I'd "help." Ed's a nice guy and all's well that ends well.
He smoked some of the pig and it was really delicious!!!!!!
Had an armadillo sniff my boots Saturday, and got a few ducks Sunday. Two coyotes ran does away from my stand but I couldn't get the rifle on them in time. Most likely the Weatherby would have been fatal!
Saw turkeys twice but couldn't get any of them.
Oh, and found a dead coon in one of the ponds. Didn't do an autopsy so not sure what he died of..... and found a cow skull, just in case there was one missing?
Give it another try in a couple of weeks......
An armadillo sniffing your boots? A dead coon in the pond?
Don't send me any dry sausage this year!

Also forgot, Sunday morning drove by some cows. One was chewing on what turned out to be a deer antler of all things.
Hung it on Tom's trailer fence, still dripping cow slobber. The things you see at the deer camp....
Ken I'm making up a special batch just for you!!!!!!! :p
Cows chew on antlers and bones all the time. Guess its the calcium they're after. But, it IS sorta strange to see an old range cow running around with a bone sticking out of its mouth! :p

Hey, Tom, I did a "you." :D
Saw a herd of about 50 hogs at Ranch Dog's place. Managed to hit two of them and we couldn't find either. Pretty sure that one or both were hit too high in the shoulder.
We searched for quite a while through some thick brush. Coyotes will have some free meals.
