Greetings everyone,
in my quest for a 33 wcf improved. I found 338-348 Ackley. What do you think? I realize I would now need to form and use 348 or 45-90 brass, but that isn't any more work than making 33 Win from 45-70, like I have been doing. 45-90 is easy to get, from Starline. I don't plan on cranking this think up to max pressure, I just like what the Ackley rounds offer in terms of case life, and thrust.

Thanks Much

I like Ackley cartridges also, and I think a .33 or .348 Improved would be very interesting.

I would hesitate to modify any collectable Winchester. they are becoming like Colt single actions - worht their weight in gold, and an '86 is heavy!

Even an '86 that has been reblued is worth a considerable amount of money. Just a thought.

I think that you need the .50 base case not the .45 case to make .348 wildcats. Fortunately Starline has .50-110 I think.

:D Juan, Mike is correctamundo. The 348WCF is based on the 50-110WCF case. The Miroku '86s will not accept any larger diameter or longer cases without extensive modifications to the feed system and bolt face. If you want a 50-110, go with a model 71 Browning.
