This deer was shot at about 60-70 yards, Hornady 150gr SST fired from 30-06 at 2950fps. Bullet seemed to hold together well, yet there was plenty of damage to the heart and lungs. I was happy - I never liked the ballistic tips that just blow up.

Yup, that's a dead deer alright :D
Thanks for the report. Good shot placement. Always good to have evidence from the field. Sorta reinforces the suggestion to avoid meat damage, by not shooting the parts you are going to eat!

Yeah, there was no wasted edible meat. Couldn't ask for better performance.
Being a confirmed SST user, will add my congrats on the making meat hunt!
Have taken a dozen or more animals with the SST's since they came out and have yet to be disappointed with their performance.
Good target bullet, also.
Having invested heavily in a supply of H's SST's in .30-06, but not having actually shot any animals with it yet, I was much gratified to learn that I hadn't wasted my money.

You can't argue with success. thanks for the report. I loaded those several years ago but had some bad results, probably not due to the bullet. I have since used the 165 gr SP exclusively on deer and it has been up to the task. the only other round I have shot deer with is the hard cast 44 and it is true. You can eat right up to the hole. It puts em down also.
Those SSTs are sure an awsome choice to put deer down.
