the best way to do it is when you melt your lead down to make ingots. Is to use some wax candle was, bees wax. Drop a piece of wax about the size of a pea in it stir it real good and scrap what left off. You can light a match to it to keep the smell and smoke down. Save what yu scrape off to put on top of your melting pot to keep your lead from oxidiseing. Forest Punch

While stirring, be sure to scrape along the sides and bottom of your pot thoroughly to break all the slag free. Skim the top of your molten alloy to remove the slag. Even then, some slag may not float to the top of your alloy so you should flux, scrape, and stir again before casting. Nothing is as frustrating as to find slag mixed in with your beautiful bullets after a long casting session.

The LASC has the finest article on the subject I've seen. In depth and completely understandable.

one thing I forgot to mention is I took a hack saw blade and got the end red hot and bent a 90 deg.on the last inch of it this little tool works wonders on the slag on the sides and behind the pour spout rod in your pot Forest Punch
