Do a Google search for gunstocks and you'll find all sorts of info.

Look at MidwayUSA.com

I cant recall off the top of my head a synthetic wood grain looking stock for 77 mk II's

Have you looked at Bell and Carlson's stocks?

I don't know that anyone makes a synthetic wood grain looking stock. It sounds like the best option for you would be a laminated stock from someone like Bell & Carlson, or Richards Microfit. I know form Richards Microfit you can get a bunch of different colors everywhere from yellow, to black and gray. They need to be finished though with something like Tru-Oil which is not hard to apply.

You could always get some of that old outdated contact paper that has a wood grain to it and stick it to your ugly stock!:D

i think your best option is an HS Precision synthetic. i used to have that same rifle, before HS offered a stock for it.
looked at B&C, Hogue, etc and wasn't very impressed so just modified the 'boat paddle'. now HS offers a great stock for it. you won't be disappointed. you can also look at Numrich, Brownells and Ruger and see if they still have the walnut factory stocks, which i've always found quite good. also look for the factory stocks on Gunsamerica.com, trading post here and other gun classifieds.

My brother just put a HS sporter stock on his .338 Hawkeye. Makes it look like a great hunting rifle. It also has a reasonable palm swell. The hawkeye stock didnt really give you much to grip on to.

Barkbuster,
If you're not prejudiced against laminates, take a look here:

http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/Classic-Replacement-Stocks-Ruger-s/38.htm

I have the same on a 416 Taylor on a Mauser '98 action. It's a bit thick on the fore end, but that's OK for a heavy kicker. Not sure if they slim it down for a lighter cartridge or not??

These guys make a laminate stock that looks great. The problem is picking the colors and extras, such as hand checkering, laser checkering, ebony forend caps and grip caps, fish scale pattern checkering, etc. They also offer solid walnut stocks. They have an aluminum beding plate for the action and are 100% drop in. Take a look and see if they don't look better than "plastic". http://www.accurateinnovations.com/index.html

Which stock do you have BarkBuster ? Is it the new Ruger Synthetic, or the old Boat Paddle style ? I might would buy the old one from you, if it is a boat paddle.

By boat paddle, I mean like these. This is my .300 Win Mag and .338 Win Mag (Im in deliberations on a 7mm Rem Mag boat paddle now :D ). This pic doesnt capture the beauty. My .300 is polished to a mirror shine ;)

You could also get a laminated wood stock from Ruger and not have to worry about fitting etc. I got one for my 260 Stainless and was quite happy with it.

You might want to check this place out... they can dip your synthetic stock to have a wood finish no problem.

Look at the galleries... some of the benchrest rifles they've done are stunners.

This may not be the same type of wood you want to see on a synthetic stock, but here's a Remington synthetic with "burl" wood.

Hi, I have 2 McMillan stocks with Douglas barrels and they have worked real well.
I am trying to buy one back that I sold and wish I never had sold it. The action is Savage, Douglas barrel in a 35 Whelen.

Hey that's neat.... heck, I've got a few wood stocks I'd consider dipping to improve their looks!

Another little write-up on the hydro-dipping, including a video of the process.

P.S. Mike, your signature couldn't be better :)
