Finally got around to trying out the new mold .

Should have cleaned it with an old tooth brush & tooth paste . :-(

Should not have lubed it with a candle , before it started throwing good bullets . :-(

I am spoiled by my 6 cavity .44 and .45 caliber molds . Big molds consume lots of lead , but they also capture lots of heat . Getting hot quickly and easily staying hot .

Had a lot of trouble keeping the mold hot . With the conatant need to replenish lead in the melting pot , I had trouble keeping the melting pot hot enough .

For the last year or so , I have used a modified " Fry Daddy " to pre-melt my lead . This allowed me to replenish my production pot with molten lead . Keeping the temperature of the production pot up .

Well , my " Fry Daddy " is on its last legs . :-( When I last used it to pour ingots in the muffin pan mold ( that my wife found for me at a garage sale ) , the " fry Daddy " barely had enough heat to melt the wheel weights and other scrounged lead .

OK , almost got rained out twice , today ( I cast outside ) . Covered the mold and production pot with a galvanized bucket . Last time I gave up and shut down .

I use a turkey fryer burner under a cast iron plumber's pot these days. I got the burner without having to buy the pots at Gander Mountain, but probably could have got it for less at an on-line auction.

I've seen a Fry Daddy at Goodwill. What were the modifications? Would it work to clean up/smelting wheel weight?
