Have any of you hunted late season whitetails during the muzzleloader season ?

Trying to escape the crowds, but I know thats tough hunting with all the pressure the deer have already seen, and with the rut over.

Any advice ?

I have been hunting in the Mid East part of MN for late season deer in the past several years. I know there is quite a bit more pressure down by the cities. I have hunted both private and public land and we have had success doing both. If you can get on some public land and do a little tracking and see where the deer are moving you might increase your chances of seeing deer. Also going in a little deeper into the woods may help. Try and go somewhere where you will be able to get to, but think that nobody else would go to the trouble to access. Still I have gone out in the middle of nowhere and found stands, but these were used for regular season, and not as many people do the muzzle loader thing. The main problem I have noticed after every deer season is that many deer especially the buck tend to go nocturnal and your best chances of seeing them will be in early morning late evening. Last year I shot a nice 8 point on private land that was hunted heavily during the regular season. I caught him walking back to his bedding area about 10 minutes after opening legal shooting hours for the day. Another thing is that in the past couple years many people have bought muzzle loaders and after shooting them a couple times and seeing all the work that it requires, they loose interest. That along with the new change last year to the separate licenses from the All season any weapon tags may pull some people away from the sport.
