Well I bought some W/W lead and was melting the ingot's and found a large clump in the bottom of my pot. it is soft enough to scratch and heavy also. anybody have a idea what it could be? and it's not gold so I'm stumped? :o

Is it straight lead? The tape on wheelweights are almost pure lead. Pure lead has a higher melting point than wheelweight alloy.

I'm not sure! it was in some ingots of W/W that I bought. it was just a big clump! guess it could be pure stuff . guess I'll have to put it in all by it self and see if it try's to melt. thank.:o

Try turning up the heat. Maybe your pot is a little cold and that glob is just some unmelted alloy.

I expect that it's unmelted pure lead. Turn up the heat and it will alloy into the other metal, though that will dilute the antimony and tin, so it will be softer.

Well I can cut the chunk down and put it in a few bullet casting's! man it's just not my day. :o

If you just melt it in, you can use most lead free solders to bring the tin level up to compensate the hardness. Just don't buy one that has zinc in its MSDS, as that will ruin the alloy for casting. You want it to be tin with almost anything else; bismuth, silver, copper, selenium, indium, etc. Adding a couple of percent of tin by weight helps the mold fill-out more easily than pure WW metal anyway.

Be sure to look up the MSDS online before you add it in. None of the dreaded zinc, which interferes with mold fill out. I'm pretty sure I've looked up their brands before, Oatey and Stirling, and they were OK. But that was some time ago and formulations can change over time, so I would check them online again. Always best if you can find a sale, of course.
