I am looking for a mold to cast a 425gr (or thereabouts) bullet for the .45-70. Does anyone here have any recommendations of a source for something like this?

My hunting-shooting partner designed a Piledriver Jr. emulator mold. Here is a thumbnail comparing exterior dimensions among four good 45-70 bullets. Our chief concern was whether his bullet would feed without issue through an unaltered Marlin M1895. We loaded dummy rounds. The cartridge feeds more reliably than: Speer 350, Speer 400, Remington 405, Laser-Cast 405, Hornady 350. So far, it meets accuracy needs. We are still working up loading data, using IMR 3031 and H322.

If you want the Mountain Molds specifications sheet, let me know.

Yes, please. Very interesting stuff... I'd love to hear how you find it performs.

RCBS 405 FNGC fits this description. Not a real wide meplat, but functions well in a lever. Casts right around 420 gr w/ww.
Can be obtained through Midwayusa.com
