This picture was taken from our deck (the roofline is in the photo). The bear posed perfectly! :D

To a complete novice like me, that picture tells me that climbing the nearest tree to get away from the bear may not be fool proof?

Great pic Do you see them often that close to home???

We just sold our place in Girdwood, where this picture was taken. But, yes, they did come around quite often. When the salmon runs would start in the creek just below our house, we would have 3 or 4 black bears a week and 1 or 2 brownies (coastal grizzlies) in our yard. Bears are really interesting, dangerous, but incredibly interesting, animals.
