Uh, did they deep6 the program that allowed the public to qualify to get a surplus garand? Just checking.

Check the prices at gun shows, you'd be horrified at what some of the old beat-up Garands bring. Whether the CMP price is worth it to you is another question, I suppose. I think they start around $500?

Expect the asking price at the guns shows to be double what the CMP is getting. Guess where all those Garand's at the guns shows came from. You're not limited to one gun per person or year, so I've got a pretty good idea.

I did the paperwork for mine about 3 weeks ago, I've probably got a bit of a wait ahead of me.

What grade M-1 did you decide to get??
Im may do it if Im pretty sure Ill get a shooter and not a door stop pos.

I ordered one of the Danish models. Most of the guys at the club I belong to, which has Garand matches once a month, have ordered either the Danish model or the standard grade with the nicer guns being the Danish models out of what we've gotten.
