Guidance leading me to the .480 here on this forum. Makes sense to me what I have heard so far. I am assuming the 480 can drop 200 lb animals at less than 100 yds. What types of and providers of ammunition are recommended for all around deer/bear/hog hunting?

Can't go wrong with a big flat-nosed cast bullet, but if you intend to shoot a lot, I see reloading in your future..... and reloading makes a LOT of sense with the big boomers, can practice more and not beat yourself up.

The Hornady factory ammo has been written up in a few magazines, the hollow-points are apparently expanding OK but not a lot of penetration. Certainly enough for deer..... and works on hogs with the right shot placement.

The big cast bullets in the 350-400gr. range should go completely through about anything in North America.

Try Buffalo Bore (www.buffalobore.com) for some really heavy factory loads. Expensive, but you won't shoot them all the same range session, I guarantee that!
