I've got a 12ga muzzle loading shotgun from Cabela, that I'd like to try shooting patched balls with. It's got screw in choke tubes and I'm wondering if it would be better to leave the tubes out while shooting P/B Anybody out there ever tried this before? I also have no idea of how much black powder should be used for a starting load.....

If you leave the tubes out, you risk damaging the threads.... see if they have a cylinder bore choke that would protect the threads without making a constriction.

Oh and I have the cap for the Weaver scope in the truck, will try to get to the post office today....

Shot my tc new englander with the modified tube in place and a .715rb, kicks the beat dickens and groups good at 25yds, but agree on getting a cyl choke for it. My TC now has iron rifle sights and bbl bobbed to eliminate the choke tube. Have fun and pad your shoulder.Swany

Use the same load as for a shot charge. 27.5 gr. = 1 dram, so 3 1/4 Dr. = 89.3 gr.
