Hi Guys,

Are there any of you who (1) are involved with high pressure, high velosity, pre-charged air rifles of ANY caliber or (2) have tried to cast your own ( or swage your own) pellets/bullets/projectiles ?

This isn't meant to encourage a discussion as to why anyone (me) would be involved in such a thing, but to contact others who are also, presently involved.

I look forward to those folks contacting me at my e-mail address as shown on my "profile page". Actually, I'm not that snooty. It is just that I'm just getting started in this new shooting sport, and am not able to answer many questions about the phylosophy (spelling) and fewer about technical aspects of those folks who are just curious at this point. In short, i need more help than I can offer someone else.

Some folks may say, " Big deal ! Same old thing with this guy!" :D

Hello from Scotland~

I love my pre-charged air rifles..... they are excellant for pest control plinking. For squirrel, rabbit, pigeon, i often use them instead of my .22LR both have silencers but my pre-charged are SO quiet and the pellet dos not SMACK into the ground/prey making less noise than my .22LR Often my pre-charged puts more bunnys in the bag than my .22LR
I have two a Falcon FN19 as you can see the air cylinder in built in under the barrel, i preffer this to detachable cylinders like my Theoben.

Im afraid i just shoot shop bought pellets Bisley magnums in my .177 and .20

Both mine are set at 12 ft/lbs muzzle energy (laws) i could get them on my licence and have the ME put up to 50 ft/lbs !
Even at 12 ft/lbs i can kill rabbits with head shoots at 40-50 yards... even the little .177 exits a rabbits head at that distance !

There is an English custom guy "stalker rifles" who makes in line pre-charged in .177 .20 .22 .25.30. 44. 50 up to 80 ft/lbs plus !

Hi Englander,

I'll Look Your E-mail Address Up In Your "profile Page" And Send You A Reply. I Don't Want To Offend Anyone At Shooter's Forum By Taking Up Their Space.

If You Have No E-mail Address I'll Come Back To This And Extend My Thoughts Here.

Thank You For Responding, Englander. The Rest Of Europe Has Not Been Very Kind To You Brits So I Can See Why You Are Aginst Your Joining Them In Anything.

Have two molds, a .177 and a .22, from LEM in England...haven't heard of them in awhile. Cast spitzer airgun pellets...slight hollow base, but basically a classic stumpy sptizer shape with a little driving ring along the rear edge. Work...but are a royal pain to cast. Don't know if LEM is still arround (a fast net-check didn't raise them).

Don't use pre-charged...find them loud. They will give amazing velocity (have shot along side those who do use them) but find that most of my air rifle shooting is better served with less rahter than more.
-------
Considering their extra weight, the spitzer shape does help retain velocity noticably better...hard to match accuracy with good store-bought pellets, but the spitzers (of slightly hardened lead) will penetrate an amazing amount of meat.

Hi Ribbonstone,
It Is So Nice Of You To Share Your Info With Me.thank You Very Much. What Did Your Pellets Weigh ? Do You Shoot The Pellets In Other Of Your Air Rifles ? Do You Want To Sell Your Molds ? Would You Trust Me To Borrow Them If I Pay Freight Both Ways ? Pellets Now-a-days Cost 2 Cents---as Much As Sale .22 Long Rifle Shells.

See Ya. Thanks Again.

Sorry...bad experineces...don't lone molds. Don't take it personally. Believe the "M" in LEM was for McGuire, which may help a search.

Am working with a brand new system here (Linux) and there is a lot to un-learn...once I get it up and running right, will send a pix of the two molds and the cast pellets.

By memory, the .177 makes an 11gr. sptizer (alloy dependent) and the .22 tosses a 20gr. spitzer. Accuracy has not been outstanding...and hard alloy is better used with fully seated and engraved pellets.

There is really now way that casting will solve your shooting needs, unless you shoot vbery little....NOTHING has been as fustrating as getting good .177 bullets from that mold.

Hi Ribbonstone,
I've Sent Mail To "englander" Who Lives In Scotland And Asked Him About "lem".

I Respect Your Experience And Ability And Shall Not Explore Casting Pellets---swaging Is Still An Option, However.

The Recent Pellet Cost This Week Was 2.1 Cents Each For Crosman , 2.1 Cents For Eun Jin, 6.8 Cents For Tiger And 14.5 Cents For Skenco. I Hope Remington Never Finds Out What Pc Rifle Users Pay For Their Pellets---ridiculous !

Take it you've tired the net for better prices on pellets?

Have noticed some pellets listed by Pyrimid Air that are very heavy...and pointed...basically, the spitzers you asked about. Cheap pellets that shoot poorly aren't even good fishing sinkers.

BTW: been using a lot more .25's...and those aren't near as cheap as the little ones, but as a hunting spring-air, the .25 has been wroking out very nicely.

Hi Ribbonstone,
Yep, The Pyramydair Is Where I Bought My Gun And Unpteen Pellets. The Gun I Bought Can't Use The Pyrmydair Pellets ( No Flared Skirts) In The 6-round Cylinder. Gotta Keep Looking.. The Eun Jin Gun And Pellets Combo Are Supposed To Shoot 3/8th In. Groups At 90 Feet. They Weigh 29 Grains And On Medium Power Setting, Will Penetrate 1 1/4 " Of Plywood. Maybe I Should Get A Couple Of Thousand Of Them And Shut The Heck Up. Heh Heh Hard For Me To Do, Ribbonstone.
