Considering ordering a Ballard rifle, but do not have any experience with this company, or single shot rifle matches either.

Would like to hear anyone's experience with the single shot Ballard rifle. Which caliber are you using? How do they hold up?

Thank'ee

You may want to consider posting your question on two other boards. There are folks there that are really into single shots such as the Ballards.

The Ballard rifle was the choice of many target shooters for about 60 years. They are still being used today for cast bullet competition. The new Ballard rifles on the market today are high quality copys of the orriginal gun and are said to be just as accurate. The Ballard is a low pressure action designed for black powder loads. The most popular calibers for the Ballard were;22,next32-40 and 38-55. I shoot several Ballards with smokless powder by reducing the loads to black powder pressure levels. :)

I shoot Ballards chambered for .45-70, .40-60M, .38-55, .32-20, .32 Ballard XL, and .22 LR. All are great shooters, and extremely accurate rifles!
The centerfire Ballards are a forged frame for the most part, with the exception of most the #2 and #3 Ballards. These are cast frames, but even they are found occasionally in forged.
The new Ballards are made from CNC machined from 8620 bar stock, and are stronger than the old originals. They are chambered for all the old blackpowder cartridges. The parts and workmanship are equal to the original Marlin Ballards.
