Looking back at some of the old posts, your old favorite and most effective 357 Magnum load is listed as follows:BTB .358"-185FNGC/16.0gH110/WSPP/Win Brass. My question is,should you use that small pistol primer with H110?Also,would you use the same load with Win.296 and the same small primer? Are the magnum primers not necessary in your load?

Hi,
I think Marshall might still be moose hunting so I'll step in and offer a little information.
I settled on this hunting load for my .357 Blackhawk and so asked him a lot of the same questions, and I'll pass along what he told me.
Yes he does use the 'regular' Winchester small pistol primers. The 'magnum' Winchester small pistol primers have a reputation for being pretty hot. You'll have the case nearly full of powder and a pretty heavy bullet in front of it so ignition should not be a problem.
Now, I started out my load development with Federal small pistol magnum primers and did not see any problems whatsoever. So, like all loads, you'll just have to work up and see.
I am using WW296 with no problems. It has been reported in the shooting press that WW296 and H110 are both the same powder, made by Primex in St. Marks Florida, and differ only by the usual lot-to-lot variations.
Hope this helps....

Hi, T.A.P.
Have you seen this old post of Mr. Gates? I haven't worked with his load as much as I'd like, but I've had better luck with the WSPM primer too. Further testing is required on my part, but it sure shoots high, about 6" at 50 yards when I'm zeroed for 158 grain bullets.
