.270 is fine, if you aren't planning on saving the hides. Father-in-law reporting shooting a coyote with an early, especially soft batch of Ballistic Tips in his .280 Rem and said it pretty well cut them in two. Guess not a problem if you were going to just make slippers????
Seems most board member (and I) agree that the Remington 710 is a POS.
Don't really know anything about the Charles Daley brand of rifles.
The Howa company is pretty reputable and makes a nice bolt action rifle.
A 22-250 would make the best coyote/varmit rifle up to ranges of 300 - 400 yds. The .243 will do that out to ranges of 400 - 500 yds if you know your ballistics. Both are a joy to reload with Hodgdon H380 being a good powder for either.

The .243 has killed a ton of deer. Go with the heavier bullet weights of at least 100 gr. and if you reload, stick with premium bullets like the X bullet or Partition and you won't loose you deer. You will need to be careful and pick your shot, same as with any caliber, but just be certain there is nothing for your bullet to contact before it gets to the deer. The .243/6mm bullets tend to come apart on brush. The .243 is a fine deer rifle but I would hesitate using it on anything larger than a whitetail.

How big are your deer?
In Texas the .243 is pretty much a universal deer gun. Our small whitetails aren't exactly monsters. I think I've shot only 1 that weighed more than my labrador retriever.
The deer my father-in-law shoots in Kansas probably weigh, on average, twice what the ones I shoot do.
Big'uns, like up where Jack lives, might be a different story altogether.
I've taken both Wyoming mule deer and South Texas whitetail with the .243 cartridge, using Nosler Partition handloads for both. It will get the job done, but as with all big game hunting, bullet placement is a must. Doesn't have the knockdown power of a 45-70 or a big .338 Win mag.

Check to see if you really can get the Daly. Their Mauser style action is built in Serbia and because of the recent conflict in that area there is a ban on imports. I talked to a representative at the NRA convention in April and they hoped to have the ban lifted by the first of the year. A check at their web site indicated the same thing. You might have found one in stock from pre-ban days.

Just my two cents, not real sure if it's too late to chime in on this, but I own a .234 Remington Mohawk 600. I shot my first deer with it when I was 9, and I'm 28 now. That's all I've ever taken white-tail with. I've killed around 25 deer and out of all those, I've lost 1, and that was because I mis-calculated my distance.

Coyotehunter,
I do not know how your budget is, but if you can afford another $75.00 I would give a serious look at a cz. I do not know if you are comfortable dealing with the folks at the auction sights or not. But they are selling these at gunbroker for $429.00. You might haggle a little on that if you buy it out of auction. The dealer appears reputable. While I do not own a cz rifle the one I shot was accurate and seemed well built. Maybe some of the other guys can give you more information on this if you want it.

The Charles Daly are being made on the same equipment that the Interarms were origionally made on. Quality is about the same. I have shot one in 243 from before the ban and it would keep two different factory loads around 1.5" at 100 yds. I have a Weatherby Vanguard in 223 that is a sub inch gun with almost everything I put through it. Howa has always and still does make the Vanguard line for Weatherby. They also made the same gun for Smith & Wesson as the 1500 and for a few others also. My favorite pick of the bunch would have to be with a CZ. They are tackdrivers in rim and centerfire. I own several different CZ's in different models and calibers and all shoot under 1" with handloads. I especially like the .22's (model 452) and the small actions for 223/22 hornet. Their large action (model 550) is still great but a little too sleaked up for me. But I still own several of them.
