I don't know why but I am absolutely loving playing with my M-6 Scout. I have taken the file out and used aluminum black to darken the sights. I have the following loads shooting perfectly to point of aim at 50 yards. (22 Hornet)

35 Horn V Max and 12.0 Lil Gun. 1.5" average group
40 Sierras and 10.7 H4227 1.20" average group 2365ft/sec
50 Sierra Semipoint 11.0 H4198 1.6" average Group 2077ft/sec

45 SP Win shoot into 1.2" at 2620 1.5" low
46 Win Hp shoot into 1.4" at 2460 4 inches low ( Shot my Chrony after 10 years of use)

45 barnes X won't stabalize in cool weather.

On Grouse I hoped the hevier bullet construction and low speed of the 50 grain would allow for limited expansion but no such luck. Body shots are much too explosive. I have switched to 40 grainers and head shots. I think I'll try some reduced loads for small game.

As for the 410 I switched to Federal 7.5 shot in a 2.5 Hull with excellent results. patterns are ok for grouse to the 22-25 yard mark. Much more even than Win 3" shells.

So much fun I just ran down a Savage Camper 22/20 guage. Should arrive next week.
Don't know why this class of guns are not more popular. they are really useful and a lot of fun.

My first shotgun was a Stevens 22-410. My Father bought it shortly after he returned from WWII. As you can see from the photo it has the tenite (plastic) stock and forearm. I used it from age 10 (1955) until dad handed down his Stevens 311 double barrel 16 gage to me at age 13.

My love afair for combo guns started when I was a youngster and continues to this day. In addition to the 22-410 I have a Savage 24 in 20ga/.223 and a Russian made 12ga/6.5x55 imported by EAA.

I have my eye on a CZ 584 12ga/30-06. It is a little pricy compared to the EAA import but I think Santa is going to put it under the tree this Christmas.

Good shootin'

I too am interested in that CZ. I am very satisfied with the accuracy of every CZ I have owned and I think the big 30-06/12 Guage would be very handy for mixed grouse/moose etc.
