Has anyone used the .17hmr remington 597? I have just purchased one and I must tell you that it is the most accurate firearm I have ever owned. Several people have told me that it has proven bad for them. What do you think?

17hmr is a nice 25-150 yard rimfire cartridge the little bugger can take just about an challenge as towards small game and varmint its a nice gun to have when your letting your alternate rifle barrel cool or just to plink with.

Yes, providing the wind stays still, all the .17 HMR firearms seem to shoot very well. Guess it's one of those inherent accurate cartridges.
Maybe I'd better qualify that - when loaded with Hornady brand ammo. CCI ammo stinks in this cartridge. The Remington doesn't do too badly, but still not as good as the Hornady. Hope Winchester hurrys with their offering so we can see what it does. Get enough people making the ammo and maybe the price will drop a smidgen!

Just got a 17, wind is no problem out to 300 yds. if its a 5 mph breeze just hold into the wind 20" or so and roughly 30" high.easy. I figure that since crows are migratory it's my job to educate them for their trip back south. so any that sit still within 300 yds get whacked at. they're getting jumpy round here. so far I have'nt harmed a one, the swift was a little hard on them but this little gun is a riot I'd probably feel bad if I did hit one but that's the price of a good education.
