I am loading with Reloader 15 and Hornady V-max moly 40 grain bullets for a Tikka Continental .22-250. I am wondering about the difference in loads from moly to non moly. Look below and see for a 50 grain moly coated bullet has a max load of 38.1 grains and the non moly is 36.5 grains. The problem I have is that I bought 40 grain moly coated and the only recipe I can find for a 40 grain V-max is for non-moly coated V-max bullets. Can anyone explain the difference to me and if anyone knows where to find a 40 grain moly recipe? Thanks

Hornaday's Recipe: #22613 50 gr. V-MAX BT Moly
Reloader 15 38.1grains 3,916fps

Alliant's Recipe: #22261 50 GRAIN V-MAX BT
Reloader 15 36.5grains 3,800fps

Somebozo - Welcome to the board!

Go to the thread "Moly.......Anyone?" in this forum for information on moly - nonmoly reloading. You will see it takes more powder to have equal velocity when using moly bullets as when using nonmoly. Reduction in bore friction causes pressure drop and loss of velocity with the moly.
