I'd really appreciate it if someone would tell me what company manufactured the Ward’s Western Field .22 SL & LR pump action rifle – model # 81-SB508A, Serial # 38866K. I’m in need of a cartridge extractor.

Well.................!

My cross-over list doesn't show a listing for that particular model - jumps from SB300 series to SB600 series.

However, the majority of Western Field firearms were manufactured by Mossberg with just a smattering of Stevens/Savage. I'd try Mossberg on a google search and find out from them if this rifle is one of theirs.

I have no listing for the Model 81, but ALL the SB prefixes listed are Savage/Stevens....

Correct - Mine shows SB's to be Savage, also.

Sorry for omission.

Here's all the SB Series Western Field I could find - a lot of them are shotguns. My guess is either Savage or Stevens made the rifle.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for all the replies. I’ve done some searching for this model and have come up empty. I’m sure there’s no mistake reading the make/model info because it’s clearly stamped on the rifle. I’ll keep looking.

My Dad acquired this rifle when he joined the Maryland Minutemen back in the WWII days. It’s my understanding that members had to use their own personal weapon. I guess that’s an effective approach to Homeland Security.

How about Western Field 22 bolt action model no. M 832?????????? I lost the clip. If I'd only known how rare that thing was!

A Western Field 832 is the same as a Mossberg 341.

A Western Field M822 is the same as a Mossberg 640K.

That's about as close as I can come to a M832.

The model 19 12 gauge shotgun I bought at an auction is identified as a Western Field Model EY19. Any idea who made this gun?

If you go to Numrich ( e-GunParts.com ) you can check their online cross reference guide. If you want one, pick up one of their catalogs. The brand name to manufacture cross reference is in the back of the catalog.

That was an excellent suggestion, SureShot, but no joy on the cross reference at Numrich. The list skips right over the 19, going from 18 to 20, and there is no model that starts with EY. Perhaps I'll start with Mossberg to see if I can find one of their models that's similar, given that Mossberg made many of the Western Fields for Wards.

Thanks for trying to help.
