Hello Gentlemen....
This is my first post.
I bought a Savage Striker in .308win yesterday. Does anyone else have one of these? If you care to share some reloading experience with this pistol, I'd like to hear about it.
Do 180gr bullets produce too much recoil? My Striker doesn't have the brake.
The photo is of my old Striker in .243win. It was one of the first ones out of the factory....purchased in 1998. I sold this one to buy the one I now have in .308win......I guess you can say that I LIKE this handgun! I transferred the stock, scope, and mounts over from the old, to the new.....It's a great set-up!
Scope is Burris 2x-7x with posi-lock.

Doesn't seem to be much interest in this topic, but here's what I came up with....
I just got back from the range....and there is a smile on my face! :)
All load work up for today was at 50yds, 4-shot groups.
Recoil is stout, but manageable. (I still may do some experimenting with 180gr bullets.)

This group was the best of the bunch, and was produced with 33.9gr IMR 4198.
Speer 150g spitzer was seated to +.020". from ogive to lands. (Still fits in magazine, but are about 2.805" OAL.)
Lee FCD, medium crimp.
R-P F/L sized cases. (These were originally fired in a Springfield M1A, and are on the 3rd reload for the lot.)
Primer is CCI-200.

Hello, Hogship - and, Welcome to the forum.
It might not be so much lack of interest (we're always interested in hearing of firearms, loads and groups) as that there may be a scaricity of Striker owners on the board.
That's a nice looking setup you have there and by the pictures, it looks like you may not need a whole lot of help with loads! ;)

I bought a Striker FSAK in 308 about a year ago, and haven't really worked up a load for it yet......it shoots my rifle reload ammo pretty well though.....I use H414 and IMR4064 a lot, and just bought some RL15 I want to try also.......

How can you wait so long, jem375?
Whenever I get a new firearm, I just can't wait to start working up a load.
The only thing that will postpone the effort is snow....and that's a commin'!

hogship,
based on the difference in velocity difference between 24" and 20" barrels that I get loading the .308 in rifles, you may want to try some Hodgdon Varget. This powder has proven to be very uniform in the loads I've tested, and true to the advertising it is pretty independent of temperature. I'm not saying that temperature has no effect, but max loads worked up in the late fall showed only very mild pressure signs in the 100 degree heat of summer. Sd's with this powder in a 20" barreled .308, only 5" difference from your pistol, are typically under 5 for 5 shot testings. 150gr Hornady SST's have proven to be very accurate in my Savage rifle which has the same twist rate as your handgun.
IMR 4895, 4064, and Alliant RL-15 would probably be some other good choices if you have them on hand. In working with a .284 Winchester, which has a bit more capacity than your .308, in a 15" pistol barrel I was suprised to see that the slower burning powders that would be used in rifles also gave the best performance in the shorter barrel. I like your odds of very good performance with Varget.

Thanks kciH....
At this point, I'm satisfied with the accuracy results, using IMR4198, shown in the photo above. I'm feeling lucky to have gotten such good results so soon....as you know, this isn't the way reloading efforts usually go!
