Any 22-250 reloaders out there?
I'm relatively new to reloading and using sierra 60gr with ADI powder. Groups about 1-1.5" at 100mtrs ( i dont use a benchrest, I'm a hunter and like to recreate the reality of what its going to do in the field)
Would be interested to hear from others, experiences with this cal, and what you find to be best load?
ps rifle :- Tikka T3 Hunter

Ron,
I used to own a Ruger 77/VT in this caliber. My smallest group (of 5) ever was a little under 0.4", off a bench. It was mostly a 5/8 - 3/4" grouper on average. My favorite load involved the Speer 52gr JHP Match over a charge of H414. Don't recall the exact weight of powder but it came from the Speer guide. Ended up getting rid of it because it tended to stay at home a lot. Got interested in leverguns and just quit shooting it. It's not hard to load for but does force you to trim cases a lot and keep an eye out for head separations. This was my experience. Other's may be different. Had a strange occurence once. Fired a round and when I ejected the case it had no neck...it stayed in the chamber. The rest of the batch were crushed with pliers...they snapped too. Never did figure that one out...brittle brass.
Have fun.

Ron,
It's a fun cartridge - fast and destructive! Accurate but generally not used for the bench rest matches, at least not any more.
Sierras are well known for accuracy so that's probably a good choice. What are you going to shoot with it?
So many good bullets - hard to know when to stop trying loads.
Powders - lots of IMR-4064 is used here, also Hodgdon H380, Reloder 15, anything in the 'medium' burn range should do well. I use Varget which is pretty close to 4064 and meters much better. I believe that Varget started out as Mulwex 2208.
Mostly it's used for varmits here but I did shoot one deer with mine. The Barnes "X" solid-copper hollowpoints are a pretty tough bullet and that's what I used. Also found good accuracy with the Nosler 40gr. Ballistic Tip, at screaming velocities (around 4,000fps).
I have not had any problems loading it, it does have quite a bit of taper so keep an eye on case length and signs of case head separation.

Very interesting thanks.
Must watch out for the case probs you mention, although I dont know how many times it took to cause that, I am only working/planning to load a max of 6 times.

Thanks for reply,
I shoot rabbits, foxes,(and some other furry things, if you know what I mean) ferral pigs and goats, and we come across the odd deer.
Interesting to hear Mulwex, they are now ADI, (Australian Defence Industry) seems to be the most popular powders here, they do a good range, they work well and arent expensive.

Reloading these cases 6 times may be about rignt. As I recall I usually HAD to trim at 3 loadings, sometimes it was so close after 2 loadings that I just went ahead and trimmed then. I never trimmed a case more than twice. The improved chamber would help with this problem a lot. Just never got around to having it done. Might be worth a consideration but then you might have other concerns that I'm not aware of. I'm sure someone else around here can contrast the two.
MikeG is right. This is one fun cartridge to shoot. Lots of speed and zero recoil, at least in a 10lb target rifle. I miss mine sometimes but there could always be another one in my future. Just have to let this levergun thing run it's course :-).

I shoot a Ruger #1V .22-250 with 39.0gr of H380 behind a Sierra 55gr BlitzKing. Started out with 38.0gr. and 2 years ago had to move up to 39.0gr to maintain sub MOA. Best group was .375 with the 38.0 gr load and now it shoots .50 when I do my part. I neck size only and have only had to trim my brass once after my 10th loading. Still going strong at 600 yd P-Dogs and never had a coyote so much as twitch after hitting it. They die on their feet. There are many other combinations out there, but this one works for me. I also had my barrel bore scoped last year and found no appreciable wear or erosion after 3500+ rounds. Just my experience with the cartridge.

I have a model 70 winchester heavy varmint model in 22/250.I started with a few loads but have settled on a nice mild accurate load.It should be said that if you want to duplicate these loads work up to them mate.My favourite load is a 55gn Nosler balistic tip over a charge of ADI BM2 32gns with a federal LR primer.I have zeroed it for 200m.Using it under light mainly i have no problems blasting foxes out to 250m/300m.Rabbits,hares and cats have no chance anywhere inside 250m.I hope the MODS dont mind me posting a pic of the end result of my 22/250 on a well tuned night. This hare was ranged at 180m with a finder and then decapped.
