My mate has a 270, and wonders how easy is it to convert to 270wsm, its a browning a bolt.
Is it possible? Is it just an action change? or is new gun cheaper?

Hello, Ron173 -

Your action will be long enough, in fact, the extra magazine length would help in seating heavier bullets out of the powder area.

As the WSM's of this caliber are based on the .404 Jeffery case, the guide rails would have to be opened up to accomodate the fatter cases. The bolt face would have to be opened up to accept the larger case head and the magazine capacity would be lessened by one round. I'm not familiar enough with the Browning A-Bolt barrel to say whether there is enough metal to set back and rechamber.

The A-Bolt is a fine rifle and would have value to someone "as is" in this caliber. If it were me, I'd either replace with another one in the desired caliber or find a nice Win Mod 70 Classic.
