New to the board and just wondered if anyone has had experience with this brand of rifle?
Let's here it!
I've got a CZ550 Safari. I haven't had it long enough other than to fire it on two occasions so far. The fit and finish is pretty good and I haven't had the courage to shoot it off the bench as of yet. It hits bowling pins easily, offhand, at 75 yards so it can't be terribly bad in the accuracy department. It appears to be a very nice rifle for the money, and a very good rifle all the way around. The express sights are very well regulated as they come from the box, which suprised me a great deal.

I have a CZ 550 Premium in .270. Just sighted in 2 wks ago at the Eastern Nebraska Gun Club. Even managed to hit the 450 yd gong! The stock isn't pretty in the way of say a Browning, but it's a nice working rifle, just what I was looking for.
Do you have a scope on yours?
Interesting to hear you shoot at ENGC, I shoot at Weeping Water when I've the time. Aside from WWGC I shoot a bit of pistol at the Bullet Hole, and shotgun at H.A. Koch.
I have a scope set up for mine, but have yet to shoot it with a scope. I'm a little leary of mag eyebrow with this rifle. I've been smacked by a .35 Whelen Imp, and my .340 Wthby, so I'm working my way into it. I'm a "big time" stock creeper, so I've been training myself to keep back on the stock before I put a scope on it. I don't know that I will put a scope on it one way or the other though, as this rifle was meant for shooting big nasties at close range. If the .340 stings the brow, I'd hate like heck to see what sort of bloodshed could ensue from a .416 Rigby. Like I said, I'm practicing on keeping back on the stock. I don't really think it's all that mandatory to scope a rifle like this, considering it's intended purpose.
If I clamp the scope on it, it's a 1.5x5, as I feel that's all that's needed. To be honest, I'm feeling it would be appropriate to have a scope mount drilled into the barrel if I can get a reputable smith to OK the job. I guess it all depends on barrel thickness. I like to be able to shoot a rifle from prone, or any other field postition, and I think a scope could really hurt you from that position on this rifle. With a scout mount it'll never be in the back of your mind that you'll get smacked anywhere but on the shoulder.
I do like the express sights though. Don't know if I want to deal with the "fear" of being smacked in the brow.

Roger that!
By the way, who around Omaha has the CZ 452 .22 cal for sale.
If you mount a scope the traditional way, I would suggest Talley or Warne rings. Mine came with Millet and they wouldn't hold and it's only a .270
I will be a CZ shooter once I come up with the cash for a 452. Might take a while tho, with birthdays, Christmas coming up.

I shoot the 458 winnie in 550 Safari mag, I have a good working load for the saeco 465gc. However without getting the bbl. turned back a little ,it probably will never shoot cast very well. On the other hand it is very good with jacketed 500 grainers.
By the way,I have come to like the "hogback" stock very much. rolls the recoil up, not straight back. I found this very helpful.

They sell CZ 452's at Guns Unlimited. I don't believe they sell any of the larger rifles. I would call them first if its much of a drive for you, they are hard to keep in stock according to the counter guys.

Hello Redhat.
I shoot 2 CZ's. I have a 452 that I cut down to 24" and am really impressed with its abilities with good .22lr ammo. I had to do some minor tuning to the magazine and receiver to make it operate smoothly, it had a couple of burrs here and there. The factory 28 3/4" barrel was just too long for .22lr, I got some pretty low velocities with erratic groups, just too much drag in that long barrel. I cut off one inch at a time and found stated velocities and excellent groups when I reached 24".
I just acquired a 527 in .22 Hornet that I had "K" improved and am currently working up loads for. Upon initial inspection, I found the action to be sloppy in the stock with quite a bit of sideplay. I shot 50 rds through it in box stock condition and couldn't get better than 1.5MOA. I glass bedded the action and made a world of difference. While fireforming brass for it, I got one group that measured .271 (C to C) using H-110 powder. Hope I can get that again with the formed brass. Just my experience with CZ's, I really like them.

Allen,
NOtice you're an Instructor. Where at Glynco? I do the same just military. I heard some of our retired guys got hired on at FLETC. What do you teach?
PS
My rifle shoots about 3/4" at 100M. Good enough for me. I am thinking about a 12BVSS for the target stuff.

I've got a CZ452 Lux .22 and I believe it's the best value in a bolt .22 out there! Great wood, solid construction and the best iron sights I've seen on any .22 under 300.00. The saftey will take some getting used to but other than that it looks like a mini-mauser action. My nephew's got the 452 Scout and that is a good first .22 for a kid since you can switch it from single shot to a repeater by replacing the single shot adapter with a clip after the basic saftey rules have been learned. I have a CZ 452 Lux .22mag that is just plain awesome. I traded into it, and at first I didn't really care for the European styling, but it really grew on me once I shot it. One hole groups at 25yds w/ factory iron sights is easy. I am going to use the Millet rings that came with it to mount a scope so I can test it to 50 and 100yd distances, which I am sure it will excel with ease.
The only thing I don't like about my CZ is that it is in the .22 mag caliber. $7.00 for 50rds is expensive, especially since I am a reloader. I'd rather have one in 22LR so I could shoot all day for just a dollar or two.
Otherwise, CZ gets both my thumbs up!!!

Howdy Redhat,
I occasionally go TDY to Glynco to teach Firearms (6 month stints). I am trying to get another detail there right now. I am also my stations Firearms Instructor/Armorer. Is the Redhat handle indicative of USAF CATM or whatever they call it now? When I was in the AF , I did a lot of work with those guys (Redhats), I was an armorer in the COP shop.
FLETC is hiring a bunch of retirees to teach there along side permanent staff. Their knowledge and experience is priceless where students are concerned.

Yeah that would be a nice gig. I know some of the guys that signed up. I've been doing this since '92. G-smith shop (E-bay) is now inhabited by CATM, but we got merged with the SP's in '97 so we're all over the place now.

I have the CZ550FS in 7x57. Beautiful rifle; shoots phenomenal with Hornady 154grSST's over 46.5gr of IMR4350. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Well I don`t know if this is relevant or not, but here goes. I hunt with a CZ 98 in 7x57. It was built in 1947 after the Germans were outed. It has a manlicher stock, double set triggers, folding express sights graduated for 100 & 200 yards. The stock has a slight cast off for right handed shooters which brings the sights up in line with the eyes without effort. The finish is rated at 98%, and the gun is original condition except for the rear sight, which has been filed down to a shallow V, Brit style. The gun does have British proof marks, and was purchased in England 32 years ago by the gentleman who sold it to me. He had never fired it. The stock is oil rubbed, and the blueing is a deep plum. It is almost perfectly fit, the metal and wood seams are uniform and snug. If the more modern rifles have retained the same traditions, You can`t go wrong.

I have the CZ550 American in 6.5x55 and it is one fine rifle. The only one complaint I have is the mediocre checkering. But that is appearance only as the metal work and blueing is outstanding. The factory single-set trigger is a bonus. For the dollars spent I consider it to be one of the best buys on the market.

I really like the 6.5X55. What type groups have you gotten with it?

Hi,
Have a CZ-550 in 6.5x55mm, mannlicher stocked. It shoots very well when I do my part. One doe last year at a little over 100 yards. May not be the most beautiful rifle in the rack, but it sure does work! What more than that can you ask?

I own and shoot several different CZ's. My personal favorite is the 452 Mannlicher. Very pretty little rifle. The newest one that I have a love affair with is the 527 American Classic with the curly maple stock.
All of them are exceptionaly accurate and the set trigers on the centerfire models are very nice. I will admit that the se triggers may need a little adjustment as they tend to have some creep from the factory.

Hey Allen, whatcha' think that little 527 will do chambered for the new 6.8Remington SPC?
This new cartridge is same length as the .223, but it's 6.8mm 115gr bullet on a shortened 30 Remington case. Remington just added this cartridge in three different loads on their website. It has smaller case head than the 7.62x39 Russian, but slightly larger (0.422") than the .223.
Unfortunately, CZ-USA said they have NO plans to chamber rifles for this new round - and Charles Daly said the same thing.
TIA!

I'd be fibbing if I said I was a CZ shooter, but if I can get to the range tommorrow, I'll be a CZ shooter! As of noon today I am a CZ owner, so after getting my scope mounted on my new CZ 452 .17hrm, I'm headed to the range tommorrow to see how well I can shoot it. It sure is a great looking gun!

i shoot a cz 99 precision rimfire 22lr these rifles are not made in czech republic but are made in serbia by zastava. The rifle is used as a plinker and on rabbits small vermin and has proved to be a good unit.I paid only $385 aussie buckis for it and got rings and 2- 10 shot mags thrown in. If you can get one in the states and its a rimfire your after seriously consider it will work out alot cheaper and in the end shoot just as well......

Hi,
Bought a CZ 550 in 6.5x55mm, shoots better than I can hold it!! One doe so far, one shot what else can I say? Works good, appears to be able to last a long time. One more heck of a good buy.
