Hi Im not a collector of older H&R handguns but someone needed money bad so I more or less just gave them $200 for what may be a $20 gun but at least helped someone out.

The gun is a blued 22 break top open 3inch brl with fixed sights. The grips are black and have what looks like a target with bullet holes in it. It is a double action in exellent cond. It has no serial numbers on it that I can find. On the barrel it say's
Harrington & Richardson Arms Company US Pat oct 4 87 april 2 95 april 7 96 I have looked and the only numbers are under the black grips are 5502. I have looked everywhere and can not find this gun anywhere in 22 cal. I can find what looks sort of like it in 32cal but not in 22. Some that look like it are valued form $65 to $350 Please help.

Your H&R break action frame pistol was made from the late 19th through the early 20th century. Calibers most often found were .22lr, .32 S&W and .38 S&W. Like the Iver Johnsons these were made in good numbers and are often found at gun shows. Unfortunately they hardly ever bring what you would call collector prices. In excellent to like new condition it could be worth up to about $200.00 but most are usually seen for far less, around $75 in good shape down to about $35 if there is some part(s) missing or in need of repair.

If it is in good shape you paid a pretty steep price for it. It will make a nice plinker and curio to add to your collection. You also helped a friend in the process and that may mean more to you then the gun itself.

Due to the questionable grade(s) of steel they used in those days I would strongly suggest if you decide to shoot it use standard velocity loads. Do not use high or hyper velocity rounds in it. That will go a long way to insure that this already very old piece will still perform for a long time to come. Happy shooting!
