Hello everyone:

This is my first post to this forum. It seems like you people have a wealth of info here.

I have a good question. I had a friend of mine give me six boxes of 440 grain LBT cast bullets in 458 diameter. I love the 45-70 but my only gun is a Super 16 barrel for the Contender. I have seen a lot of loading data for this gun but nothing for this weight of bullet.

Could anyone out there give me some place to start. I know there is data for the Marlins and Rugers but the Contender can't handle this pressure. I'd really appreciate some help in this matter.

Found some data for 45/70 in the Lyman #47 manual.
shows 33.0 grains of IMR  4198 with a 1/2 grain polyester wad over the powder using a 450 grain gascheck bullet as giving 1445 fps out of a 28 in barrel. Thats the start load with a pressure of 24,100 cup.
There is data for the Contender in 10in and 14in barrels but only goes up to a 405 grain bullet.
