hello everyone!
this is my first time out so i hope i do this correct. i have a question on powders in my inline gun. its a night disc mag. 50 cal. im shooting pyrodex as of now, that is what i was told to use by my brother. he has been into the inlines a couple years before me. but im not sure that he is doing the correct thing. i found that when he finds something that works (for him) then thats what im to do and thats that. you know how it is with big brothers, do as i do and dont ask! he likes 100g. of pyrodex and i think its a 350g hollow point (big hollow point) made by barnes. this is what he will use for deer in NY state. me i think that is over kill at least on the bullet size. i use 100g of pyrodex and a 220g small hollow point from barnes. i get better groups with this at 100 yards and it will not kick the snot out of your arm. i dont think that you need such a big slug for deer. but i do want the power down range so thats why i stick to 100g of powder.
but now i see a lot of people going to tripple seven. i hear it is a lot cleaner to use than pyrodex. and it will give you more bang. so you will then need to back your load off. if 100 of pyrodex was good then prob. 80 or 90g of tp-7 should be about the same. it also burns cleaner so you could take more shots before you must run a patch through your gun.
this is what i hear but im not sure. so thats why i wanted to talk to you all and see what you think about it. do i stay with pyrodex? or do i make the change and go to TP-7. if its the better powder then im gone.
well i look forward to your comments and i hope i did this the correct way.
thanks and good luck out in the woods!!
