I now own a Bausch & Lomb Balvar 6-24 scope. I know nothing of this scope and have many questions. I own a B&L Elite 4200 and the Balvar is definately a predicessor to this scope.

Here is the about the scope:
It is Bausch & Lomb, 6-24 power. All writing on the scope is yellow. It says Balvar on the back by the adjustable power setting. The objective lists numbers (yardage) from 50 to 1000 and then infinity.

The turrets are numbered from 0 to 22 by twos. There are two clicks per dash where the dashes would be 0, 1, 2, ... 23. How far is a click?

The bottom of the scope reads:
6-24x40
64-6244
JAPAN
Z001394

What do you know about this scope? Coated lenses? Turret adjustments are how far per inch? Approximately what years were they made or what year were they discontinued? How much did they sell for? Do they have a lifetime guarantee? How do they compare against the Elite 4000 or 4200 series?

Thanks.

Please find a relevant answer to your question copied from benchrestcentral forums:

"I assume you have reference to the "older" original 6 X 24 brought out in 1956. If this is the case, and you need instructions plus a good bit more, a good substitution is the "Dope Bag" write up in American Rifleman, August, 1956, beginning on page 64. This is quite extensive and perhaps better than the original instructions. In addition to operating instructions it also points out things not to do, flaws, and describes the actual workings. Unfortunately, I realize this won't take the place of the original to place with your scope, but it should help.

Hope this helps."

Does your scope have the adjustments on the tube like most scopes do, or on the mounts? If they're on the mounts, it's an old one like the previous post refers to. Those were discontinued sometime in the 1970s. It's probably a newer one, made in the early 1990's, as I have a Balvar 1.5-6X Model 64-1563 made in that period.

Bushnell took over the Balvar line, so check out their site.
