Any one got any tips for shooting the beretta at 100 yds?
Best ammo, grain, etc.

Has any one here taken 100 yrd shots with the m9 or 92 fs?

SRM,

I have required my boys to shoot their M9s at 100 yards, as an exercize in sight alignment and trigger control. Also, I think that soldiers that can hit at 100 yards, have a great deal more confidence in thier issued sidearm, and after a mild tune up, we could on average ring the metal man about 33% of the time, and misses were not by much. Load was NATO U.S. Army issued hardball.

The Beretta is a very credible sidearm, but it does have its pro's and cons. It is very reliable, fairly accurate, and a well made weapon, that deserves more credit for duarability than it gets. The large grip tends to undermine a good hand weld, and the result is the natural tendency for folks to "low left" it, until they are properly indoctrinated. This is the part of techinical marksmanship that is the hardest to master for the young soldiers, but once comfortable, they come into their own as pistol shooters.

This is also a weapon that I have found problematic to conceal, after a few hours in a small of the back type pancake holster- under a suit coat, I liked to had needed a kidney replaced. Not a practice that I recommend.

If 100 yard shooting is something that you are interested in, I would keep bullet weight from 115-124 grains, and shoot at a target that gives instant feedback, like the pepper popper type metal man that we use. A buddy /spotter will be able to tell you where the spashes are for the ones that go wide/ short, and you will able to remedy the error. Stay away from Kentucky windage, which is an exercise in futility, only practiced by those with poor techinque.

The Front Sight is your friend.

Good shooting.

Steve

Thank you for you advice. I agree whole heartly that the beretta doesn't get the credit that it deserves. Around here everyone talks about the glocks.

I agree also. The Beretta is definitley a great all around weapon. I bought my first one like new at a pawn shop. The first time I took it to the woods it really impressed me. At least on mine I can aim right at something with the sights and nail it everytime. I've bought 3 other 92 series guns since. I've literally fired thousands of rounds through the first one and I'd like to share a recent story about it.
My friend has a 300acre farm in Arcadia, Florida. Two months ago we (about 10 guys) went there to stay the weekend. We brought all our guns: .243?, .30-.30, .223 bushmasters, my .454, ruger superblackhawk .44, .22 lugers, .357's, a 380super, ect, ect.
We set up a folding chair at 260 yards with a couple concrete blocks on it. Of coarse, the rifles hit every time. But we broke out the .44 and the .454 to show my buddy that yes, the .454 is a more powerfull round! (He is a believer now)!
The .44 had a scope and it hit all right. My Taurus only has iron sights but I swear hitting that chair wasn't hard. I just hid it behind those sights and squeezed! I'll tell you that of all the guns, the .454 throws up some serious dirt you can really see the plume at 260+ yards!
Anyways back to the point. For craps I took a shot with the 9mm. I did not even expect a report but sure enough a couple seconds and there it is, the spash! So I took some educated shots at it (I've got excellent feel for this gun) aimed at the chair then raised the sight just above it and..........hit, hit, hit. I am dead serious man. I could not even believe it but I saw it. As far as up close goes that beretta is awesome!
P.S. noone else there at the ranch could get similar results with the glock 9 or whatever small cal. handguns they or myself used!
