I have just about made up my mind to buy a new Colt Python Elite 4" SS, but thought I would visit this board for opinions. I recently found the Colt Forum and posted my question on it and got some really good information from its members. However I thought I would ask for opinions on this revolver on this forum, in light of the useful information that I got from it's members in the past. Do any of you own or shoot a Colt Python Elite? If so, what is your evaluation of it, and your recommendations? I got a lot of information from the Colt Forum about preferred years of manufacture, serial number identification, and so on, frankly enough to make a decision on an older Python quite involved. I know that Colt had some problems in the past and the quality of their firearms reflected the problems. However, I believe that I read that Colt had restructured and presently the man in charge (a retired Marine Corps General I believe) has brought quality back to Colt. Thoughts and opinions will be appreciated. Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I had a Colt Python, which I sold last year. I thought it was a grand handgun. Many did not like its trigger, but a good 'smith could turn it into a S&W equivalent.

There is a good article in this month's 'The Accurate Rifle' magazine about the Colt Python.

The action of the colts are a little hard to keep "tuned", The parts are interconnected and when one thing gets a litte bit out it through's out something else. Most target guns are built on the S&W frame because once you get it 'Tuned" the way you like it they stay that way. They are other wise fine handguns. Bobby
