Hey guys, Im looking for any info you might have about a .22 High Standard Sentinel Deluxe (which is at least 40yrs old), and a Colt .357 Trooper (which was made in the 80's).

Im trying to look into these for a relative- he owns the .22 and just using it for plinking and was thinking about buying the trooper used for about $225 and isnt sure how good a deal it is. I dont know for sure whether its the markIII or markV, but it sounds like its the newer V. Its still in the case and has barely been used and is almost like new

As always, your help is appreciated- thanks.

I dont know enough about either gun to say one way or the other, but I might visit www.gunbroker.com to see what other guns of these types go for. Hope this helps

The High Standard "Delux" would be the one with the heavy kind of shrouded barrel if it's of the last runs...believe taht was the delux. Wasn't an expensive revolver when new but waqs well though of by the shooting rags and most epeople who owned them. they worked, cost less than S&W, and had a nicely designed grip...they felt good.

Believe that Tropper is in the right time frame to be either a Mk.III or a Mk. IV...the switch was somewhere about 1983-84. It will be impressed on the barrel...and the Mk. V used large letters.

Wasn't a bad gun, just that the Tropper III was the first time Colt strayed from teh traditional Colt lock work...at the time hard=core Colt fans were a bit PO'ed...the Tooper III and V used a kind of hybred Dan Wesson type lock work...less hand fitting but some stintered steel parts.

Have owned both over the years, and there is little odd to look for. DO check the Hi Standard for timing...and if you can remove the grips, take a hard look at were the grip frame enters the gun's frame...it's thin there and if anyone used it as a club, it may crack at that point (esp. the left hand side).

The colt just needs a typical revolver check...don't know of any special problems that it had. $225 is decent going rate.
