I've decided to get a 6" 686 as I already have a 4" I like to shoot. The 6" would be for PPC and hunting. My only problem is I can't decide between the ported or unported barrel. Would unported create more noise and distraction from my front sight picture? I imagine that shooting 38 wadcutters from either ported or unported wouldn't really matter. It's the 357 magnums that I'd want to reduce the recoil on and get back quickly to my front sight picture. Any experienced or observed info would be appreciated. Thanks.
I just bought a 686PP. I have the 629PP in 44 and really like it. Seems to reduce recoil. Not sure about the additional noise factor, since I've never fired either revolver without ear muffs. Depends on who you ask regarding a ported barrel vs. a non-ported and noise. With the 44, I wear plugs with ear muffs over them.
