I was going to buy an ultra powered handgun because where i hunt in northern wisc for deer and bear the shots are short and the woods are tight. Went with a 12 gauge this year(it was a temp choice as I saved my pennies). I doubt I'll be switching, awesome knockdown with beirneke super sabor 2 3/4 slugs. wonder what the ballistics (speed/vel-ft lbs energy-trajectory is on that round out of an 18.5 inch bbl. can anyone help/

I did that and the super sabot is not listed or available in the ballistic table they provide. Also my Deutsch is poor and I doubt any of the info is related to an 18.5" bbl. wonder if anyone has info on a 3" super sabot from a short rifled barrell.

so it looks like the 12 gauge is the way to go, i cant see any of the super handguns matching this with a 1`3/8 oz projectile...

LOOKS like you got it sorted out! WISE Choice! I think I would carry some extra rounds close at hand in case the shotgun doesn't hold enough to finish the job! It's easy to make a drop pouch from a single piece of heavy leather with a snap closure to fit over a heavy gunbelt. I have one that holds five (5) 12 ga. shells and it's a comfort to have it with me when using a shotgun...
Even if you loose a little velocity by using the short barrel, you gotta' very effective close range load there that should take any Wisconsin DEER or BEAR! ;)
GOOD LUCK!

IMO you should take a second "backup" gun with you if your hunting down bears. a .44 magnum is a great choice. you can let off more shots, at a charging bear with a revolver than with a shotgun (in most cases) and if it gets to point blank, the pistol is going to be better suited for self defence.
