BOSTON, Massachusetts (Reuters) -- The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston on Tuesday demanded the removal of an animal rights group's billboard advertisement depicting the Virgin Mary cradling a lifeless chicken in her arms.

The ad by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals features the tagline "Go Vegetarian -- It's an Immaculate Conception," a reference to teachings about Mary's purity.

But the church said the billboard was "offensive at any time" and especially so during the Christmas season.

"Why any organization would seek to garner goodwill for itself and its message by promoting an ad campaign that is so offensive to a large number of people within the community is unclear," the archdiocese said in a statement.

"What is clear is that if PETA truly cares about ethical behavior, the billboard message should be taken down as soon as possible," it added.

PETA said it has no plans to take down the billboard in Boston. "

Charlie Z, that sort of attitude was also taken with a certain person named O'hare.........while i do my best to stay out of religious discussions, i live right in the Bible Belt, and things like Judge Moore's stand over the Ten Commandments hit home. What is all the furor over saying "under God" in the pledge of allegiance, or having "In God We Trust" as our motto? Madeline and her group was ignored, also. IMO you can't turn a blind eye to this sort of thing, sooner or later it has to be confronted. Are these people vegetarians? Do they totally not use anything that has animal beginnings? Anyway, just my .02.....

Ok you know how stupid this is I mean really, they are so **** desperate to get their point across because they know that no one give the smallest piece of SH-- about their whole program, so they have to go as far as harassing kids, who obviously did nothing, ya maybe if we harass people, then they will understand killing animals is bad, if you ask me I would wipe out a hamburger and be like dang this thing is good.

The sad part is that a lot of people believe what they say and give them ludicrous amounts of money each month for their cause. Look it up and see how much is donated to them in one year. It's absurd!

I know what you mean, it is absurd. But how do you think I feel? -MY- brother and sister-in-law are two of them. I spoke with my brother about the fire-bombings and he spouts out the same useless banter about if our government can invade other countries... bla bla bla... Christmas day was funny, both me and my father sat there just BEGGING to bait them on something but my mother would have killed us both. -MJ

I don't understand it.......
I mean animals eat other animals, animals kill other animals because they are teratorial and they leave them there for thier corpses to rot/decompose.....
But yet if we kill an animal to eat, or kill and animal and use every bit of it they fuss?
People today have nothing to do thats the problem, if they had a job to where they had to do hard labor 10+hours a day the wouldn't be wandering around finding things to cause a fuss about....

Good that you respected your mother's wishes on Christmas day. But Christmas is over, give the PETA family members both verbal barrels and have it out with them!!! It'll be fun!

PETA is such a bunch of whack jobs that their ludicrious schemes are almost comical. Thankfully, I live in the cornfed midwest, whereas most PETA types are confined to the coasts. Good riddance.
