I just purchased a used S&W 629 44 Magnum. It came with a couple of shells. I had to fire them off. The first shell was no stronger than my 357 mag but the second was awsome. It's been approx 6 hrs and my ears are still ringing and the concusion was huge. What shell do you think this is? I have to have more!

Any .44 mag shell will rattle your eardrums if you don't have hearing protection. I'd guess the first was a .44 special.

Invest in some earplugs & earmuffs before you go to the range again.

brown.t,

I have the same gun and I have found that using plugs and ear muffs together really help. For me, the recoil is fun, but the noise is want makes you tense up and flinch. Can't imagine firing that gun without ear protection. For hunting I even use plugs.

brown.t : Hope I'm not being presumptuous but it seems to me that anyone who would drop the hammer on a 44Mag w/o hearing protection probably wasn't wearing eye protection either. Tell me it aint so. "A word to the wise is sufficient." Pepe Ray
