Dear Gentlemen:
I am in the process of searching for a good holster and belt for my single action revolver. There are many choices, some are as low as $70 and others as high as $250 for the what is apparently the same article. Through mail order I cannot see any apparent difference. I am sure that if I could inspect the goods in person that I could tell the difference (and no doubt prefer the most expensive), but without the ability to do so I am hoping to find some advice on which holster and belt is the best buy (not necessarily the least expensive, just the best value).
Thank you,
Terry

I'm not sure how you'd locate any without a trip south of the border (sounds pretty good right now), and it might be a good excuse for a vacation with your wife, but I picked up some holsters and scabbards in Mexico (La Paz) a couple years back that are impeccable leather work and were VERY cheap. I got a shoulder holster for a 41/44 mag, black and tooled to a 'T' for $10. Then I picked up a scabbard, full length, zipper, sheepskin lined (real sheepskin), and two 48 inch latigos for $20. Looks just like the Keith scabbard that Boyt is putting out now. Dickered the guy down to about half of what he was asking to start with. He had alot of leather and I should have picked up more. Shell belts, bandoliers, western style holsters, and all very well made. It seems that the mexican leather is tanned differently than ours up here (chrome tanned vs ???), and it is nice. Brass hardware to top it all off...
Holler back if you need a compedro to go with you...

Now there's an idea that my wife will love! Really, you have me thinking about it now. I would love to get a holster for $10. My wife would love for me to take her to Mexico (in the winter preferably, but she would love anytime).
Thanks for the idea.

Sounds like it's time to make a run across the border. Where did you pick up the holsters in Mexico?

Terrific looking holster and belt. Did you make it for your own use?

Vgaby,
I am sorry, I miss understood your post! That is a nice looking rig and it looks like you do good work. Good job!

Agreed; good stuff, dosen't get floppy, and fits your gun well. I prefer unlined holsters, even though the lined types look better, they tend to grab my pistol too much when shooting CAS/SASS. A $50 dollar holster doesn't mean cheap w/EPS; just money well spent.

I take it you own and shoot EPS products? I have seen their work and I think they make good stuff at a good price.
I agree with you on the lining thing. Most of the customers I make holsters for don't want lining in them either. I Don't like lining myself for the same reasons.;)
Yes, most of my CAS leather is El Paso. I see the fancy custom rigs some folks wear, and they look great, but the accompanying outfits some folks have don't reflect the B-Western movie gun rigs around their waist. Don't get the idea I look down my nose at such things, you dress how you want and what works for you is your business alone, I just dress how I think I'd look if I where actually in the 1870's.
I see a lot of folks start out with the $20 dollar stuff they find at the guns shows; you know the belt and holster that "should" fit you and your gun. it's easy to see why this may discourage them from going farther into CAS when they have problems every time they put the things on and try to draw their pistol(s). Stiff rigs that fall apart in a year aren't a good deal in anyones book, and a $50 holster from EPS that's still going strong, hasn't lost it's shape, not dried out and ages color wise to a rich brown hue after 3+ years is what I need and want. If I could just settle on one set of pistols, I'd be set for life, but where's the fun in that? And yes, I have more holsters than guns, but what the heck?

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I've been real busy with the leather Business lately!
I agree with you 100%. When I dress, I do it all period to the late 1800's. I try and make all my rigs period as well with functionality. The good thing is I hunt and shoot so I have a good idea of what will work and what won't.
I have not held an EPS rig in my hands but I have heard they have good products at good prices.
I don't shoot CAS, just hunt and shoot at the range. I dress when I go to Tombstone and when I work my gun shows etc, promoting the biz. Someday I'll be able to do leather for a living.;)
