In your experience does the LFN group better than the WFN?
I want to buy a mold for my 45/70 Ruger No 1, it has a short throat, most factory bullets have to be seated below the cannelure to chamber. 405 beartooth LFNs slightly engauge the rifling when crimped in the crimp groove, I don't know if a WFN would chamber. I want a bullet for hunting black bear/deer and plinking. Do you recommend the LFN over the WFN? Also is a softnose castor worth the effort in this caiber or is it plenty big enough without?

John Barsness, of RIFLE magazine says he has cut the noses off spitzer bullets almost back to the ogive without affecting the accuracy.

I have shot both FP's and RN's in 350 gr jacketed bullets in my 45-70 with POI basically the same. I don't know what to advise you using cast bullets, but doubt if there would be much difference.

It's just possible the RN's may give you a little more nose into the bore before the ogive engages the rifling. Should be an easy remedy to have the throat lengthened in the #1, if you still wanted to stick with the FN's.

I load 400gr LFN'S in my Peabody. I'm very happy with the accuracy out to 100 yards but I have yet to take a deer with it. I'm sure its a good preformer on game though.

Either LFN or WFN should make a horrendous wound channel from a .45 cal rifle. I might be tempted to go with LFN for a bit better trajectory.
