i need help to figure out why you cannot mount a 30 mm tube scope on a 300 mag encore barrel. I have tried everything. I put two scopes on it both 30mm tube(Zeiss 3-12-56mm) and (3-12-48)mm scopes on it and tried every mount and bases you can find. the scopes shoot superbly because i am now shooting them on my other rifles. It fits on find and when you go to boresight it it isway low!!!!!!!! You run out of adjustment before you get within a foot to 6 inches of it. I have tried everything and dont know what else to do. If anybody knows anything please let me in on it!

Go to gunsmithing, page 2 and look for the thread titled " scope rings ". You will find a reply from Mike G and it will include a web address that has a lot of information on scope mounting,( lapping, shiming,ECT.)

You should try contacting Thompson about this. A buddy of mine had bought an encore w/ .50 muzzle loading barrel and put a high end leupold on it and before he could get it sighted in he ran out of adjustment. He also had purchased a 30/06 barrel and when he mounted the scope on it he had plenty of adjustment and no problems sighting it in. He then called a subject from the company that made the sabots he was using and was told that they had 4 other people w/ the same problem and to contact Thompson because some of the barrels were not produced properly. Thompson told him he needed to shim the scope, which he did and still was off, finally he sent the barrel back to Thompson and they checked it. It was bent and there explanation was that they had some bad batches of barrels and they took and straightened his barrel and test fired it saying it was A OK, but it was not and he finally had to fight with them to get a new barrel. Since then he has had no problems and by the way this gun is now very accurate with the new barrel.
