I have recently put two different 30mm tube scopes on my encore 300 mag barrel. zeiss 3-12-56mm and a docter 3-10-56mm. neither one when mounted will boresight due to them being so low!! You run out of adjustment 1 foot to 6 inches low. The scopes work great on my other rifles so i know it isnt the scopes. I have tried everymount and base i can think of. I went back to a 3-9-50 mm leupold with a 1 inch tube and it works great. I know i should just keep the leupold on there but i will not stop untill i can figure this out! I recently contacted encore and they acted as if i were a idiot. I know i cant be the only one out there with this problem.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

Just a thought but have you tried different rings. i thought one of the advantages of 30 mm scopes was that they had more vertical adjustment than 1 inch scopes. Could you have a set of out of speck rings. Can you switch front to back with the rings you are using. Just a thought

I had the same problem with Encore Muzzleloader barrel! I contacted Thompson, the first thing out of his mouth was, are you using a Leupold scope? Yes; then he told me you have to shim the rear of the mount .010 inches. In short, called Leupold and they evidently new of the problem! They sent out some shims NO CHARGE! The people at Leupold are a whole lot more friendly (Maytag Repairman) than the people at Thompson!! I think the problem lies on the Thompson barrels  I have read alot of things about Thompson barrels (on different forums) and a whole lot of people say the same thing! They all run out of adjustment! It's not just one caliber either, its several of them! Hope this helps!

It seems to me that Thompson should be permitted to make either a straight or tapered bbl, as they please. It is up to the sight base manuf'tr. to design the base to fit the bbl. Just on a hunch I would double check that you have the correct base. Seems like quite a difference. Whose base is it? Pepe Ray

A heavy scope will actually cause the base to bend where it cantileves over the barrel taper. I was having zero problems and just discover the bent base today. On my rifle it caused the poi to creep steadily up till I ran out of vert adj.

You could try using Burris Signature rings with inserts to give you some elevation. I think you can get +-10 and 20 MOA inserts... they could solve your problem.

Ekoch gave you good advice. Those rings solve that problem in a very nice way and those rings with the plastic inserts are also very easy on the scope, i.e. no ring marks.

Not to mention you don't need to lap them at all like conventional rings if you want 100% contact and even clamping pressure. They are self-centering.

How did a post over 2 1/2 years old get recycled?
